As the temperature in the valley drops, the water of this fall starts to freeze. The entire face of the mountain that it falls from is covered by a thick layer of ice. The water still continues to flow down but is surrounded by huge icicles and snow.

Then start the climb to Gulmarg through fir and pine covered forests.

(Gulmarg is the place where a love story started back in the 14th century. The love story of a renounced poetess of Kashmir “Habba Khatoon/Zoon” and the king of Kashmir “Yusuf Shah”. It was when the young king was riding on his horse and found a place of different colours and the vastness of green lush meadows. The place looked like a rainbow with the carpet of different flowers and got lost in the heart-stirring beauty and named this place as “Gulmarg” (The meadow of flowers). It was when he heard a song in a very melodious voice of an incredibly captivating beauty named Zoon [Kashmiri name for Moon] coming from the meadows and fell in love with her. Though already married, Zoon eloped with Yusuf. They spent warm nights on haystacks under the moon. Zoon became Habba Khatoon [Lady Love] to the king of Kashmir, thus, making their love eternal and immortal.)

Later in afternoon, you may also like to have a snow sledging experience. Hand-crafted sleds made by locals are on offer for you to ride around in, one of the best things to do during snowfall in Gulmarg. Porters pull on the sleds taking you along a special sledding track. Be prepared for a thrilling ride down one of the less steep icy slopes.

Later in the evening, take pleasure in walking and snowshoeing on several inches of packed snow. BD

Dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, it lies on a small hillock and can be seen from all corners of the town.)
